Key Manager - Adding new Trusted Authorities

Why and when would you update Trusted Authorities?
There are two reasons to add new Trusted Authorities to your keystore.

1)   From time to time new public Authorities will come into existence and become generally recognized, and you will want to be able to verify their users automatically in FileAssurity.

To help you do this, ArticSoft make available from their website updates to keystores containing new Trusted Authorities that have been generally recognized. These may be found at www.articsoft.com/updates/index.htm where they are downloadable .p7b files that are organized in date order and by reference to the FileAssurity release from which that update should be applied.

Trusted Authority updates on the ArticSoft web site have been signed using the ArticSoft public key and you must verify the signature using FileAssurity before you can carry out the update using the unprotected file. Because you have checked that the signature is from ArticSoft and is valid you can be sure that the updates you receive really are from ArticSoft and are correct.

2)  When you wish to recognize a specific Authority and the keys that it has issued.  You may want to do this so that you can recognize automatically all the people in a particular business (your own, HMO, University, government agency and so on). To do this you must obtain the public key of the Authority in .p7b format together with instructions on how to verify that the key you receive really is theirs.

Updating the Trusted Authority list

To update your Trusted Authorities list, select the Trusted Authorities update icon in Key Manager. On selection of this you will be prompted for a filename and location where the .p7b file is stored.  Once you have selected the correct file, press the 'Open' button. FileAssurity will automatically add the new Trusted Authorities to your keystore.
